BJP, Ready to Talk to Taliban but not Farmers: Surjewala

Congress's chief spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala, stated, "The Khattar government has lost the people's trust and mandate, and it should resign. Why not farmers if your party can talk to the Taliban?"

New Delhi: The Congress has launched a new attack on Haryana’s BJP-led government for stifling farmers’ voices by restricting internet access in Karnal.

In a statement, Congress’s chief spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala, stated, “The Khattar government has lost the people’s trust and mandate, and it should resign. Why not farmers if your party can talk to the Taliban?”

He went on to say that blocking the internet is a form of authoritarianism.

At the location where the Mahapanchayat will be held, multi-layer security has been placed. To provide security and prevent any unforeseen incidents, some 30 battalions, including the central forces, have been deployed.

Despite the fact that there are multiple layers of barricading preventing people from approaching the Karnal mandi, the agitating farmers have stated that they will reach the location at any cost. “We will break the barricades if necessary. Farmers cannot be prevented from attending the mahapanchayat”, said Jagdeep Singh Chaduni of the Bhartiya Kisan Union in Karnal (BKU).

According to Chaduni, the meet will draw a big number of farmers from around the state. “People have begun to arrive, and the mandi will soon be filled. By noon, all farm leaders will arrive, and the mahapanchayat will begin” he added.

Farmers assembled at Karnal mandi demanded that the IAS officer who authorised police action on August 28 be punished. They demanded that the official be suspended and that the families of all the farmers who died as a result of the protest be compensated.

The farmers’ mahapanchayat is currently in Karnal’s grain market, after which they will hold a protest march on NH 44 before heading to the mini-secretariat.
