Boycott channels, quash their plans: Muslim Personal Law Board

“The intention of these programs is not to reach any conclusion through constructive discourse but to ridicule and defame Islam and Muslims.”

New Delhi: Urging Muslim clerics, maulvis and intellectuals to stop participating in television news debates, whose sole intention is to make a mockery and insult Islam and Muslims. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has issued a statement after BJP spokespersons and TV anchors targeted Islam.

Claiming that the TV debates have consistently targeted Muslims in order to mock Islam and vilify Muslims, the Muslim body urged the prominent members of the community to boycott channels and quash their plans. The statement issued by the AIMPLB read: “By participating in such programs they are not able to do any service to Islam and Muslims, instead they become reason for their own direct insult by involving Islam and Muslims.” The statement added, “The intention of these programs is not to reach any conclusion through constructive discourse but to ridicule and defame Islam and Muslims.”

“To gather some legitimacy, these TV channels need Muslim faces in their debates due to their obliviousness, Islamic scholars and intellectuals become victims of such agendas. If we boycott such programs and channels, not only will it affect their TRP negatively but also they fail in achieving desired outcome through these debates.” Asserted the joint statement issued by various functionaries of the Muslim Body.

AIMPLB secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani had demanded strict action and legal proceeding against BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal for spewing hate against the Muslim community and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). After the statements have provoked widespread condemnation from Muslim-dominated countries, the Ministry of External Affairs has said these statements were by “fringe elements” and did not represent the views of the Indian government.
