Hyderabad: Former Minister and Assembly member Siddipet Harish Rao stated that the Congress leadership made a concerted effort to divert attention from the assembly session. Speaking to journalists here today, he said that instead of referring projects’ control to the RBI, the Congress government opened a front against the BRS.
He said that it was only after putting pressure on the government that an agreement was reached in the assembly not to refer projects to the RBI. Harish Rao revealed that the government’s attitude towards fiscal irresponsibility has been exposed.
Accusing Congress of presenting a white paper in the assembly with inaccuracies, Harish Rao said that Congress is busy harming itself with its own hands. He further stated that while there should be a balance between the ruling party and the opposition in the assembly, Congress made a complete effort to silence the opposition.
He released a fact sheet against Congress’ white paper from the BRS, pointing out that the facts presented in the assembly regarding the Kaliswaram Project are true. The report elaborated on the reasons for redesigning the project. It stated that changes have been made in the management of the Medigadda barrage, Medigadda, and Laximpur Lift System, water reservoirs, and distribution network to ensure that 19.63 lakh acres of land can be irrigated instead of the initially planned 16 lakh acres.
The fact sheet by BRS highlighted that due to several new proposals, there has been an increase in the estimated cost of the project. A letter was written to the Central Water Corporation (CWC) appealing for a review of water availability to ensure future sustainability. It aimed to secure abundant water availability for the needs of the Chevella Project and avoid any future water scarcity.
According to the BRS paper, representations were also made to the Central Government for obtaining permissions for the Kaliswaram Project, disclosing that through Kaliswaram, 20,33,572 acres of land have been directly and indirectly irrigated. The report also included details and images related to various projects, pump houses, tunnels, etc., under Kaliswaram.
