Delhi BJP demands change of Muslim name of 40 villages
"Villagers were agitated as the name of the village was a symbol of slavery."
New Delhi: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded to change Muslim names of 40 villages in the state. Accusing the Arvind Kejriwal-led government of not taking any action on the name change request of a village in the national capital, Party’s Delhi Chief Adesh Gupta said that around 40 villages have name change requests which will be sent to the administration soon.
Asserting that a local councillor Bhagat Singh Tokas got a resolution passed by the corporation, Gupta said the letter was signed by all villagers.
Claiming that the villagers were agitated as the name of the village was a symbol of slavery, he alleged that the plea to change the name of Mohammedpur village to Madhav Puram was not responded by the state government even after five months.
The 40 villages with name change requests include Humayunpur, Yusuf Sarai, Masoodpur, Zamarrudpur, Begumpur, Sadella zaab, Fatehpur Beri, Hauz Khas, Sheikh Sarai.
