Hyderabad: Panic ensued among patients and their families when a fire erupted at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday, February 7.

Videos circulated on social media platforms, capturing the billowing smoke that engulfed the hospital premises. However, prompt action by firefighters swiftly brought the blaze under control, averting any injuries or casualties.

According to Nampally MLA and AIMIM leader Mohammed Majid Hussain, who also serves as the Chairman of Niloufer Hospital, the fire originated from a fridge within a laboratory. The flames quickly spread to nearby rubber materials, generating substantial smoke. Fortunately, the hospital’s fire control system effectively managed the situation, ensuring the safety of all patients.

As thick plumes of smoke filled the first floor of the hospital, patients, including infants undergoing treatment, were promptly evacuated from the premises. The fire department, upon receiving notification, dispatched personnel and a fire engine to the scene, successfully extinguishing the fire.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit in the switchboard panel triggered the fire. Authorities will conduct further inquiries to determine the exact cause and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident underscores the importance of robust fire safety measures in healthcare facilities, ensuring the protection of patients, staff, and visitors alike.
