Telangana: As heavy rain continues to lash several parts of Telangana, the Director-General of Police (DGP), Anjani Kumar, has issued an advisory urging citizens to limit their movements and avoid venturing out at night unless absolutely necessary.
The state police, from home guard personnel to top officials, are well-prepared to handle emergent situations, and the DGP reassured the public that the present situation is under control. He emphasized the importance of staying indoors during heavy rainfall to ensure safety and urged people to stay informed about the weather updates. The authorities have also cautioned parents about the dangers of exposed manholes on roads and advised against unnecessary outings with children.
Hyderabad Rains: Red Alert Continues, Miyapur Records Highest Rainfall
The downpour in Hyderabad shows no signs of abating as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to issue a red alert for the city. In Miyapur, the situation has been particularly concerning as it recorded the highest rainfall at 65.8 mm. Many areas in and around the city have already received substantial rainfall.
Authorities have stressed the importance of safety during such adverse weather conditions, urging the public to avoid venturing into prohibited areas. The district administration is on high alert, closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas.
Hyderabad Under Red Alert
Incessant heavy to very heavy rains persist across Telangana, leading to an red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the state. Hyderabad faces heavy drizzle, with the rain expected to continue till Friday. The IMD warns of extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas over the next 48 hours. In response to the downpours, the Telangana government has declared holidays for educational institutions and suggested staggered timings for private offices to address traffic disruptions. In addition, Andhra Pradesh is also experiencing heavy showers with advisories for fishermen to avoid the sea due to squally weather.
Telangana Floods: 80 Tourists Stranded near Mutyaladhara Waterfalls in Mulug Rescued
As torrential rains wreak havoc in Telangana, a group of 80 tourists found themselves stranded near the Mutyaladhara waterfalls in Venkatapuram (Nugur) Mandal in the district. Due to the sudden surge of the stream, their adventurous journey turned into a gripping tale of survival. The stranded tourists called for emergency assistance, and a team of 50 personnel from the Disaster Response Force (DRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the police responded promptly to rescue them. The tourists were successfully located and rescued, with no reported injuries.
Heavy Rainfall in Erstwhile Warangal District, Officials on High Alert
Erstwhile Warangal district continues to experience heavy rainfall, leading to flooding in some areas. The highest rainfall was recorded in Venkatapuram mandal in Mulugu district, reaching 14.98 cm, the state’s highest rainfall. The Godavari river is receiving substantial inflows, with 75 gates of the Lakshmi barrage at Medigadda in Bhupalpally district opened to release a massive 5,18,710 cusecs of water. The district administration is on high alert, closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas.
Rains Take a Break in Erstwhile Khammam
While some parts of the erstwhile Khammam district witnessed very light to moderate rainfall, nine mandals remained dry on Saturday. Dummugudem mandal received a moderate rainfall of 1.9 cm, while Aswapuram, Gundala, and Pinapaka mandals received light rainfall. In contrast, 14 mandals in Khammam district experienced very light to moderate rainfall on the same day, with Mudigonda, Bonakal, and Madhira receiving moderate rainfall.
Mancherial Collector Cautions People in Low-Lying Areas Amid Heavy Rains
In view of heavy rains in upstream areas of Godavari and its tributaries, the Mancherial district is on alert for potential floods. The district administration is prepared to extend support to flood-affected people, and the Collector has requested people in low-lying areas of Mancherial town to be cautious.
