IMD Forecasts Rain, 50–60 kmph Gusty Winds in Telangana; Thunderstorms to Continue in Andhra Pradesh

IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and 50–60 kmph winds in Telangana for the next three days, while Andhra Pradesh is expected to receive rain, thunderstorms and lightning for the next five days.

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph in Telangana over the next three days, while Andhra Pradesh is likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds for the next five days due to the influence of the Southwest Monsoon. The weather department said rainfall activity will continue across the Telugu states, although the low-pressure system that earlier affected Telangana has now moved away.

Southwest Monsoon Influencing Weather in Telugu States

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are being influenced by the Southwest Monsoon.

The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab over the next 2–3 days.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) currently passes through:

  • 24.5°N/65°E
  • Barmer
  • Jodhpur
  • Rajgarh (Churu District)
  • Bathinda
  • 32.5°N/70°E

Low-Pressure Area Moves Away From Telangana

The IMD said the well-marked Low Pressure Area that was over East Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring areas has moved to northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh as of 8:30 AM IST on July 8, 2026.

The department added that:

  • The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 9.6 km above mean sea level.
  • It tilts southwards with height.
  • The system is likely to move north-northwestward for some time before recurving northeastward.

Since the weather system has moved far away from Telangana, the IMD said its impact will no longer be felt over the state’s weather.
