Lahiri Komaravelly Dominates Telangana State Sailing Championships with Triple Victory

The unique feature of this championship was the combined fleet for both Girls and Boys, offering them the chance to compete in a larger, more competitive setting.

Hyderabad: In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Lahiri Komaravelly of Udbhav School Rasoolpura, representing Hyderabad district, claimed a triumphant victory by winning all three races on the first day of the Telangana State Sailing Championships. The Sub Junior category witnessed a dominance of girl power, setting the tone for an exciting competition at the Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad.

The unique feature of this championship was the combined fleet for both Girls and Boys, offering them the chance to compete in a larger, more competitive setting.

Lahiri’s exceptional sailing prowess was evident throughout the day, as she outclassed her competition. Her sister, Deekshita Komaravelly, secured a close second position, showcasing the family’s sailing prowess. Despite appearing slightly out of form, top seed Bunny Bongur of Vikarabad managed to clinch the lead among the boys.

Surprising everyone were Vinodh Dundoo and Sathwik Dhoki, hailed as the dark horses of the day, securing the 2nd and 3rd positions among the boys.

The day’s racing conditions, characterized by very light winds, played to Lahiri’s advantage. Weighing just 31 kgs, Lahiri had a distinct edge over her sister, Deekshita, who weighed in at 45 kgs. This significant weight difference posed a challenge in the under 16 championships, but Lahiri’s sailing skills shone through.

As the Juniors prepare to set sail tomorrow, the light fleet will also take to the waters, utilizing half-rig sails specially designed for the lightest sailors.

Final Points Tally at the End of 3 Races:

Lahiri Komaravelly: 3 points
Deekshita Komaravelly: 10 points
Bindu Rathlavath: 27 points

Boys:

Vinodh Dundoo: 14 points
Sathwik Dhoki: 24 points

Lahiri Komaravelly’s exceptional performance on the first day sets the stage for an exciting continuation of the Telangana State Sailing Championships, promising intense competition in the days to come.
