Kanpur: Alleging that the buildings were partially constructed on government land, the local municipal authorities in Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh bulldozed Madrasa Islamia Inter-College. However, the Madrasa authorities have contended that the demolition of the buildings was illegally carried out without serving any prior notice to the Madrasa authorities.
One of the administrators of the Madrasa claimed that the motive behind the action was to incite communal tensions. He added that they bulldozed the Masjid, desecrated the Qur’an, and also razed the Masjid boundary. He asserted that the municipal authorities neither mapped the land nor served any notice before running the bulldozer on Wednesday, a day after Eid-ul-Fitr. He further claimed that they have legal documents of the ownership of the land.
Another official of the Madrasa said that the Madrasa was razed as it is a Muslim property. He informed that all classrooms have been destroyed and it is a loss of around rupees 5-6 crores.
Demanding a probe into the “illegal demolition” of the buildings, the Madrasa administration also sought action against the officials involved in the demolition drive.
