Mahabubnagar: ACB registers case against Sub Inspector of Nawabpet PS

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has initiated legal proceedings against G Purushotham, a Sub Inspector of Police at Nawabpet Police Station, Mahabubnagar District, Telangana, on charges of criminal misconduct.

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has initiated legal proceedings against G Purushotham, a Sub Inspector of Police at Nawabpet Police Station, Mahabubnagar District, Telangana, on charges of criminal misconduct.

According to an ACB statement released on Friday, the case dates back to October 19, 2023, when the accused officer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant, Gajje Sekhar, a resident of Hyderabad.

The bribe was solicited in exchange for official favor, specifically, to remove five accused individuals, including the complainant, from a case, and to issue notices to the remaining four accused persons in Criminal Case No. 180/2023.

This case involved charges under sections 420, 416, 468, 470, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), in conjunction with Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C), dated July 26, 2023.

Following persistent requests from the complainant, the accused officer reportedly reduced the bribe amount to Rs 2 lakhs, agreeing to initially accept Rs 1 lakh and the remaining amount after filing the charge sheet.

Audio and video conversations concerning the bribe demand were recorded by the complainant, and it was alleged that the accused officer acted improperly and dishonestly in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage.

Given the continual harassment by the accused officer regarding the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and filed a formal complaint.

The ACB then gathered electronic evidence, including audio and video recordings, and registered a case against the accused officer under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

As a result of the case, the accused officer was being arrested and will be presented before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases Court at Nampally, Hyderabad.
