Chandigarh: Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the new Haryana Chief Minister on Tuesday, hours after Manohar Lal Khattar stepped down from the post, amidst speculation of a tussle over seat sharing between the coalition partners BJP and JJP.
Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Saini at a solemn function in the Raj Bhawan here.
Outgoing Chief Minister Khattar and senior BJP leaders from the state, as well as top officials and other dignitaries were present at the swearing-in.
Earlier, Saini was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party unanimously.
Khattar resigned this morning, breaking the nearly five-year-old BJP-Jannayak Janata Party alliance.
According to sources, the reason for the breakdown of the alliance was the JJP’s demand for two seats in the Lok Sabha election, which the BJP refused to concede.
