Osmania University Men’s Football Team Makes History, Qualifies for All India Inter-University Championship

Osmania University's football journey took a monumental leap as they secured victories in all four group stage matches, showcasing exceptional skills and teamwork.

Mangalore: In a historic turn of events, the Osmania University Men’s Football team has qualified for the All-India Inter-University Football Championship after an impressive performance in the Southeast Zone Football Championship 2023-24 held at Yenapoya University, Mangalore, Karnataka, from the 11th to the 15th of December 2023.

Group Stage Results:

  • Match 1: OSMANIA UNIVERSITY 3-0 Kakatiya University
  • Match 2: OSMANIA UNIVERSITY 1-0 Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University, Bhilai
  • Match 3: OSMANIA UNIVERSITY 6-0 Garden City
  • Match 4: OSMANIA UNIVERSITY 5-0 Palamuru University

This outstanding performance led Osmania University to secure a spot in the All-India Inter-University Football Championship after a 23-year hiatus.

The qualified teams for the All-India University Championship are as follows:

  1. Osmania University
  2. Yenapoya University
  3. Mangalore University
  4. Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg (C.G) Raipur Naka, Durg

Individual performances were key to Osmania University’s success. Syed Imtiyaz Hussain emerged as the top scorer with an impressive tally of 9 goals. Syed Owaisuddin, contributing 6 assists and scoring 2 goals, played a crucial role in the team’s success.

The defensive trio of Zayd Khan, Sai Durga, and Yashwant displayed outstanding skills, while Giri showcased brilliance under the bar. Karan Singh Karki and Hussain excelled in the midfield, contributing significantly to the team’s victories.

In the culmination of the tournament, Yenapoya University, Mangalore, emerged as the champions of the Southeast Zone, with Hemchand Yadav University, Durg, Chhattisgarh finishing as runners-up. Mangalore University secured the third position, while Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana, claimed the fourth position.

The achievement marks a historic moment for Osmania University’s football legacy and sets the stage for an exciting All India Inter-University Football Championship.
