Paddy procurement: Telangana CM leads ‘Maha Dharna’ in Delhi
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also wanted the Union Government to announce a uniform national food grains procurement policy.
New Delhi/Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao along with TRS Ministers, MPs and others began the ‘Maha Dharna at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday demanding that the Centre should buy the paddy produced in the state during Rabi season.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also wanted the Union Government to announce a uniform national food grains procurement policy.
In his address, Chief Minister reiterated that the Centre should procure paddy from the state, adding, that the TRS had decided to stage the dharna covering nearly 2,000 kms from the state to the National Capital for the farmers’ cause.
He said that Union Agriculture Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement on the farmers of the state was painful.
Rao thanked Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait for attending the dharna and supporting the state farmers’ cause.
Before participating in the Maha Dharna, he paid tributes to B.R.Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Telangana Martyrs Memorial installed at the venue.
The dharna was attended by the entire Telangana Cabinet including the TRS Working President and IT minister K.T.Rama Rao.
Besides the Ministers, TRS MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Chairpersons of various Corporations, state farmers committee members and the party leaders and cadres took part in the dharna.
All the participants were wearing the party’s pink colour scarves and shawls.
The vicinity of Telangana Bhavan also turned pink with the erection of flexi boards and Rao’s cutouts, all in pink colours.
