Photo exhibition of rare and antique copies of Holy Quran in Hyderabad

This exhibition will prove to be one of the most important exhibitions in which the Qur'an of Arabic script used in the time of Prophet Muhammad will also be displayed.

Hyderabad: The photo exhibition of rare and antique copies of Holy Quran will be inaugurated by Telangana Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, at Abul Kalam Azad Oriental Research Institute, Public Gardens, Hyderabad on Friday, April 8. The ceremony will be presided over by Mufti Mohammad Khalil Ahmed Sheikh ul Jamia of Jamia Nizamia and Mohd Qamaruddin, former Chairman Telangana State Minority Commission.

This exhibition will prove to be one of the most important exhibitions in which the Qur’an of Arabic script used in the time of Prophet Muhammad will also be displayed. The script of this period was called “Hijazi” in which dots and diacritics were not used, but which the Arabs could easily read.

But later on, when Islam reached the region of Ajam, the people here made mistakes in reading, due to which diacritics and punctuation were applied to the text, which made it easier for non-Arabic people and scholars to recite the Holy Qur’an.

The script that became popular after Hijazi for the calligraphy of the Qur’an was called “Kofi”. Copies of the Quran in Kofi script are available in most countries. The exhibition also features images of Qur’anic manuscripts from countries such as North Africa, Spain and Egypt, which are written in scripts like Kofi, Naskh, Thuluth, Tuqee and Riqqa.

The images of the Holy Quran in the exhibition are taken from the Haji Rajab Museum in Kuwait. And all these photographic specimens are kept in the Abul Kalam Azad Oriental Research Institute for public visit till the end of Ramadan.

The exhibition will start on Friday, April 8 and will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry will be free for the public. Monday will be a weekly holiday.
