Pre-Poll Reshuffle: Election Commission Transfers Five More Police Officers in Telangana

In a decisive move, the Election Commission has transferred five IPS officers in Telangana to ensure a smooth electoral process. This reshuffle is part of a broader scheme to uphold electoral integrity.

Telangana: As the Telangana state gears up for the upcoming elections, the Election Commission has taken a significant step by transferring five more Indian Police Service (IPS) officers within the region. This move, executed on the directives of the poll panel, saw the Telangana Chief Secretary issuing the transfer orders on Friday.

Among the transferred officers, Birudaraju Rohith Raju, previously serving as the Group Commander of Grey Hounds, has been reposted as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Zone, Hyderabad. B.Balaswamy, who was the DCP, SB, Rachakonda, is now designated as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Zone, Hyderabad City. Nitika Pant, the earlier DCP of Women Safety, Cyberabad, will serve as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad City henceforth.

Moreover, Dr. Chetana Mylabhatula has transitioned from the position of Joint Director, Anti Corruption Bureau, Hyderabad to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Peddapalli, Ramagundam Commissionerate. Simultaneously, Dr. Tarun Joshi, initially the IGP, Training, has been promoted to Joint Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda.

In addition to these five officers, the Election Commission has also transferred P. Radhakrishna, OSD, Task Force, Hyderabad City. Radhakrishna is expected to hand over the charge of his post to the successor as chosen by the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City. Notably, Radhakrishna was appointed as OSD post-retirement by the state government in 2020.

This transfer of officers is not an isolated incident; it’s part of a broader reshuffle. Last week, the Election Commission had ordered the transfer of four District Collectors, three Police Commissioners, ten district Superintendents of Police, and some other IAS officials. This sweeping administrative reshuffle comes amid a backdrop of growing concerns over electoral integrity. As per the reports, several complaints of duplicate voter entries and alleged misuse of administrative power for electoral gains had reached the Election Commission, prompting this large scale transfer of officials.

The Election Commission’s decisive steps aim at ensuring a smooth electoral process, free from any undue influence. By transferring these officers, the Commission seeks to address the issues that might hinder the fairness and transparency of the upcoming elections in Telangana. The state’s administrative apparatus is being meticulously reorganized to uphold the principles of electoral integrity, setting a robust framework for the forthcoming polls.
