Preliminary Probe Against Wankhede Begins

A four-member investigation team has been appointed by the state government to conduct an inquiry into an the alleged corruption charges leveled against Wankhede.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Thursday initiated a preliminary inquiry against Zonal Director of Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) Sameer Wankhede in connection with alleged extortion charges leveled against him by one of the witnesses in the cruise drugs bust case.

The city police on Wednesday recorded the statement of independent witness Prabhakar Sail.

A four-member investigation team has been appointed by the state government to conduct an inquiry into an the alleged corruption charges leveled against Wankhede.

The team comprises of Milind Khatale (ACP), Ajay Sawant (PI), Shreekant Parkar (API) and Prakash gawali (PSI). The team will first investigate electronic evidence, which were provided by Sail.

The police will scan the CCTV footage to trace the people, their location and places that Sail mentioned in the statement. Sail’s phone is also being tracked for the location to corroborate facts. Sail alleged that money was exchanged through bags. The police will also investigate the CCTV footage for this.

Sail has alleged that big money was involved in Aryan’s arrest and his employer, KP Gosavi was the middleman. He had overheard Gosavi’s conversation about Rs 25 crore which was finally settled at Rs 18 crore, out of which an amount of Rs 8 crore would go to Sameer Wankhede.
