Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has successfully dismantled a Gujarat-based cyber fraud syndicate and arrested 20 individuals, including a bank manager, for their involvement in over 515 cyber fraud cases across India.

The arrests come after a 10-day covert operation launched by the TGCSB, targeting the syndicate’s core members operating from Surat district in Gujarat. Notably, 60 cases were reported in Telangana alone.

Rs 4.37 Crore Recovered in Investment and Job Scams

TGCSB Director Shikha Goel, during a press briefing on Monday, said the gang specialized in online scams related to fake investments, trading platforms, and part-time job offers. The fraudsters amassed Rs. 4.37 crore, with Rs 22.64 lakh withdrawn using fraudulent cheques.

The gang relied heavily on mule bank accounts, often created by luring traders and low-income individuals with commission-based incentives. Shockingly, bank employees in Gujarat aided the criminals by facilitating these account openings.

Bank Manager Among the Arrested

One of the key accused is Ankit Kumar Singh (26), a relationship manager at DCB Bank, who played a critical role in managing transactions and account setups for the gang. His involvement points to a disturbing nexus between bank insiders and cybercriminals.

Coordinated Investigation Across States

Under the leadership of SP Devender Singh, TGCSB deployed teams in various parts of Gujarat from April 1, using advanced tracking and surveillance tools. The operation was conducted in collaboration with local police to ensure swift arrests.

The 20 arrested have been remanded into custody, and TGCSB officials confirm that more arrests are likely as the investigation deepens.

TGCSB’s Fifth Major Operation Against Cybercrime

This is the fifth major cybercrime bust by TGCSB, reinforcing its reputation as a formidable force against digital fraud. The agency continues to work closely with national and state-level cybercrime departments to secure India’s digital space.
