Hyderabad: After over a week of heavy rainfall in the city, there have been at least six sightings of pythons reported in the past two days. Four of these pythons were successfully rescued.
One sighting was shared on Twitter, showing a large python swirling inside floodwater amidst garbage at Puranapul on July 27.
Another post on the same day featured a python crossing a road in Kukatpally. Additionally, a picture of a python near Pragathi Nagar was also shared, but it might have been the same reptile considering the time lapse.
Avinash Viswanathan, the General Secretary of the Friends of Snakes Society, confirmed the rescue of four pythons on July 26 and 27 from different locations: Gajularamaram, Nagole, Mehdipatnam, and Bandlaguda Jagir.
Pythons are known to inhabit burrows made by bandicoots in the city. The recent repeated sightings may be attributed to stormwater entering these burrows and displacing the reptiles. Nevertheless, python rescue calls in the city are not uncommon, according to Mr. Viswanathan.
