Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Telangana successfully apprehended a police constable from the Narayanaguda Traffic Police Station on Tuesday while he was in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
At approximately 15:45 hours, the accused officer, Vikas Kumar Yadav, was caught red-handed at the Narayanguda Traffic Police Station.
He had demanded and accepted the bribe from the complainant, Md Khaja Habibuddin, a resident of Rimsha Enclave Apartments, Paramount Colony, Toli Chowki, Hyderabad. The bribe was solicited in exchange for an official favour – the release of a two-wheeler belonging to the complainant’s friend, Ramzan.
The vehicle had been seized in a drunken driving case by the Narayanaguda Traffic Police, with the promise to ensure the case’s disposal with a penalty, as stated in the ACB statement released on Wednesday.
The tainted bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused officer. Chemical tests on the right-hand fingers of the accused officer yielded positive results, indicating improper and dishonest conduct in the performance of his public duty.
Consequently, the accused officer was arrested and presented before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases Court at Nampally.
