Telangana DCA officials seize two ‘overpriced’ medicines in Hyderabad

Telangana Drugs Control Administration, (DCA) officials have seized two ''overpriced'' medicines against the ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government, at two places in the city.

Hyderabd: Telangana Drugs Control Administration, (DCA) officials have seized two ”overpriced” medicines against the ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government, at two places in the city.

The two overpriced medicines which was seized on Tuesday are — Meroamp 1000 Injection (Meropenem Injection IP 1gm Vial) at Yousufguda and Itradol-200 Capsules (Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg) at Hayathnagar, DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said in a release here on Wednesday.

The product Meropenem Injection IP 1gm sold under brand name ‘Meroamp 1000 Injection’ and the product Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg sold under the brand name ‘Itradol-200 Capsules’ are under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the products shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.

Meroamp 1000 Injection (Meropenem Injection IP 1gm Vial), manufactured by M/s GMT Pharma International, Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh and marketed by M/s Ampira Biotechnics Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh, charged Rs. 2433 excess per each vial against maximum retail price (MRP) which should not be more than Rs 1067 (including 12 percent GST) for 1 gram, the ceiling price fixed by the Central Government for the product.

Similarly, Itradol-200 Capsules, manufactured by M/s Progressive Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee, Uttarakhand and marketed by M/s Antex Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Main Bawana Road, Delhi, charged Rs. 12.73 excess per each capsule against maximum retail price( MRP) fixed at not more than Rs 24.77 ( including 12 percent GST) for one capsule.

Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders, the said.

The prices of Essential Medicines shall be in accordance with the Ceiling Prices fixed by the Central Government.

Overpricing of essential medicines is a violation under Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators, he cautioned.
