Telangana Government Cancels Ration Cards of Ineligible Beneficiaries, High-Income Earners Under Scanner

Telangana government is cancelling ration cards of ineligible beneficiaries, including software employees, income tax payers and people earning above Rs 6 lakh annually.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has intensified the process of identifying and cancelling ration cards of ineligible beneficiaries across the state. Officials are conducting field inspections and data analysis to identify people who allegedly obtained ration cards using false information despite having annual incomes above Rs 6 lakh, government jobs, high-paying private jobs, or large land holdings. Software employees and income tax payers are also reportedly under scrutiny.

Telangana Government Intensifies Ration Card Verification Drive

The Telangana government has taken a major decision to eliminate ineligible ration card holders from the public distribution system.

Officials said the verification process has been ongoing for some time. As part of the drive, the Civil Supplies Department is identifying people who allegedly secured ration cards despite not being eligible.

According to officials, some income tax payers and high-salaried software employees were also found holding ration cards.

Software Employees and Income Tax Payers Under Scrutiny

Authorities stated that several private employees receiving high salaries are being identified during the verification process.

Officials said some software employees earning between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh per month were found to possess ration cards.

According to the report, some software employees continued to remain under their parents’ ration cards, making it difficult earlier to identify their details.

However, some individuals reportedly separated from their parents and obtained separate ration cards, leading to their identification during data analysis and field verification.

The report also stated that some government employees were found to possess ration cards.

Telangana Civil Supplies Department Conducting Field Visits

Officials from the Civil Supplies Department are conducting field visits and scrutiny to verify eligibility.

Authorities said individuals found ineligible during the verification process would have their ration cards cancelled.

The Telangana government stated that some people allegedly obtained ration cards using false information and availed government welfare schemes.

Criteria for Ration Card Cancellation in Telangana

According to the verification guidelines, ration cards are being cancelled for individuals falling under the following categories:

  • More than 3.20 acres of wetland in rural areas
  • More than 7.20 acres of dry land (Kushki land)
  • Annual income exceeding Rs 6 lakh
  • Income tax payers

Officials said field inspections and data verification revealed that several card holders did not meet eligibility conditions.

Revanth Government Continues Elimination of Ineligible Beneficiaries

The report stated that the government led by A Revanth Reddy has continued the process of identifying and removing ineligible beneficiaries from welfare schemes.

Authorities clarified that the verification and cancellation process is ongoing across Telangana.

The Telangana government has intensified its ration card verification drive by identifying ineligible beneficiaries, including software employees, income tax payers, government employees and people with annual incomes above Rs 6 lakh.
