Telangana Government’s Plan to Potentially Cancel 2.8 Crore Existing Ration Cards
Telangana Govt plans to cancel 2.8 crore ration cards, and issue new ones with updated criteria.
Hyderabad: In a significant policy overhaul, the Telangana Government, led by the Congress party, may announce plans to cancel all existing 2.8 crore ration cards in the state. This move is aimed at rectifying the current ration card system and ensuring that only eligible and deserving families receive the new cards.
The state government will introduce a new method to identify eligible individuals for the white ration cards, focusing on families that truly need this support. Ineligible cardholders, including those who have become wealthy, will have their cards canceled. This includes individuals who own a house or flat larger than 100 square yards or own a car.
Government employees, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals, as well as taxpayers, will also be ineligible for the new ration cards. The selection process for the new ration card beneficiaries will be conducted through local governance bodies like the Gram Sabha, Division, and Ward Sabha.
The government plans to release detailed guidelines and conditions for the issuance of new ration cards shortly. These guidelines will play a crucial role in scrutinizing applications and ensuring fairness in the distribution of benefits. Additionally, the Telangana government is considering expanding the Arogya Shree scheme up to 15 lakh rupees and adding more items to the list of benefits available to ration card holders. Further clarifications and announcements from the government are expected soon.
