Telangana State Legal Services Authority Rescues Mentally Ill Woman Stranded at Chattisgarh Border

The woman was rescued by Sakhi One Stop Centre in Gariyabad District and subsequently admitted to the Institute of Mental Health in Bilaspur, Chattisgarh, for immediate treatment.

Hyderabad: In a compassionate intervention, the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) has successfully rescued a mentally ill woman, identified as Smt. Harshita alias Harita Raja, and her two-year-old child, who were found wandering at the border of Chattisgarh.

The woman was rescued by Sakhi One Stop Centre in Gariyabad District and subsequently admitted to the Institute of Mental Health in Bilaspur, Chattisgarh, for immediate treatment.

Due to linguistic challenges, the Superintendent in Bilaspur, Chattisgarh, reached out to the Member Secretary of Chattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, requesting the transfer of the patient to Telangana State for further treatment. Following this request, the Member Secretary of Chattisgarh State Legal Services Authority approached the Telangana State Legal Services Authority for assistance.

Responding promptly to the humanitarian need, under the guidance of Hon’ble Sri Justice P. Sam Koshy, Judge, High Court for the State of Telangana & Executive Chairman, Telangana State Legal Services Authority, Sri S. Goverdhan Reddy, Member Secretary, TSLSA, dispatched a team to Chattisgarh, Bilaspur.

The team, comprising Sri K. Anil Kumar (Junior Assistant, TSLSA), Ms. S. Swathi (Women Police Constable No.13009), and Ms. A. Vennela Devi (Women Police Constable No.13021), was tasked with bringing Smt. Harshita to Hyderabad for further treatment. The child was admitted to Children Home, Shishuvihaar, Ameerpet, until the mother’s recovery.

The Telangana State Legal Services Authority’s swift action not only ensured the legal aid required for the mentally ill person’s admission to the Institute of Mental Health in Hyderabad but also paved the way for her proper rehabilitation and treatment as an in-patient. This humane effort reflects the commitment of the legal system in Telangana to address the needs of vulnerable individuals in society.
