Uttam Kumar Reddy Pledges Timely Completion of Sitarama, Sitamma Sagar and Devadula Irrigation Projects
Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress government will complete the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, Sitamma Sagar Project and Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme during its present term.

Bhadradri Kothagudem/Sathupalli: Telangana Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday reaffirmed that the Congress government is committed to completing the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, Sitamma Sagar Project and Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme during its present term. Speaking after inspecting the projects along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, he said the government would remove all administrative, financial and legal hurdles to ensure their timely completion.

Uttam Kumar Reddy Reviews Key Godavari Irrigation Projects
Uttam Kumar Reddy addressed a review meeting at the Sathupalli tunnel point after inspecting the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.
He said irrigation has been accorded the highest priority by the Telangana government and that works are being accelerated at every level.
Government to Resolve All Hurdles
The Minister assured that the government would resolve all:

- Financial hurdles
- Legal hurdles
to ensure the timely completion of the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, Sitamma Sagar Project and Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Sitamma Sagar Project Facing Legal Challenges
Speaking about the Sitamma Sagar Project, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the project had been facing legal hurdles, including proceedings before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), even before the Congress government assumed office.
He said the Telangana government is pursuing the matter vigorously in the Supreme Court and expects a positive outcome.
“If necessary, the government will continue its legal fight through a special leave petition while simultaneously securing all pending Central clearances,” the Minister said.
67 TMC Godavari Water Clearance Secured
Highlighting a major achievement, Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana secured the final Central Water Commission (CWC) clearance for the utilisation of 67 TMC of Godavari water for the Sitarama Project after he assumed charge as Irrigation Minister.
He said the approval would significantly strengthen the implementation of the project.
Devadula Review and Criticism of Previous Government
The Minister referred to the recent review of the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme and alleged that although the previous government spent enormous amounts on irrigation between 2014 and 2023, it failed to complete the:
- Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project
- Seethamma Sagar Project
- Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme
He assured that all three projects would be completed during the Congress government’s tenure and that adequate Godavari waters would be utilised for irrigation.
Projects to Follow Environmental and Engineering Standards
Earlier in the day, Uttam Kumar Reddy conducted an on-ground review of the progress of the Sitarama and Sitamma Sagar projects in Bhadradri Kothagudem district along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.
The Minister said the government would ensure that all works are carried out strictly in accordance with:
- Environmental laws
- Engineering standards
- Statutory procedures
