New Delhi: A man who lost both hands has been successfully given new hands through a successful surgery at Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi.
According to media reports, the 45-year-old patient was a professional painter who lost both his hands in a train accident in 2020.
The related patient received donated hands from a woman named Meena Mehta, who was declared brain dead. Meena Mehta had pledged to donate her organs after death during her lifetime.
Previously, Meena Mehta’s donated kidney, liver, and corneas changed the lives of three other patients, and now her donated hands have increased hopes for a painter to live again.
According to doctors, the surgery took more than 12 hours, during which every artery, vein, tendon, and nerve between the donor’s hands and the recipient’s arms were connected.
After the successful surgery, when the team of doctors took a photo with the patient, the patient was seen giving a ‘thumbs up’ with his newly transplanted hands. The patient will be discharged from the hospital on March 7 after complete recovery.”
