29 Nobel Laureates including Kailash Satyarthi, Call for Urgent Release of Kidnapped Children in Israel-Palestine Conflict
Twenty-nine Nobel laureates, including Kailash Satyarthi, are urgently calling for the release of children kidnapped in the Israel-Palestine war. They emphasize the need for a safe passage for these children away from the conflict, stating that children on both sides are considered “our children.”
In a joint statement, they express deep shock over the children killed during the Hamas massacre and the subsequent widespread bombing of Gaza by Israel. They emphasize the grave risk of further loss of life in the coming weeks, not only in the region but also in other countries.
The laureates assert that Palestinian and Israeli children are all our collective responsibility, and urge for immediate action to provide them with essential resources like water, food, healthcare, and shelter. They emphasize the importance of prioritizing and protecting the lives of the children in both the Gaza Strip and Israel.
The laureates also call for unity in remembering and advocating for the well-being of all children affected by the conflict, regardless of their background. They conclude by inviting anyone who supports lasting peace for children in Israel, Palestine, and beyond to join in lighting candles for hope and humanity. The signatories include Nobel laureates such as José Manuel Ramos-Horta, Oscar Arias, Yuan Lee, Eric Maskin, Steven Chu, and others.
