Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister and Hyderabad District In-Charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged Self-Help Group (SHG) women to utilise government welfare schemes for empowerment while launching the Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika 99-day action programme at Chacha Nehru Park in Masab Tank, Hyderabad.

The Praja Palana–Pragathi Pranalika programme in Hyderabad, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, aims to accelerate development activities across villages, wards, and municipalities in Telangana while encouraging active public participation.
Ponnam Prabhakar Calls for Women’s Economic Empowerment
During the Praja Palana–Pragathi Pranalika launch in Hyderabad, Ponnam Prabhakar encouraged women to actively participate in government welfare programmes and use available schemes to become financially independent.
He urged women to join Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and make full use of government initiatives designed to strengthen livelihoods and economic stability.
Key Benefits for SHG Women
The Minister highlighted several welfare schemes introduced by the Telangana Government, including:
- Free bus travel for women
- Ration cards issued in women’s names
- Supply of fine rice to eligible families
- Up to 200 units of free electricity for households
- Zero-interest loans for SHG members
These initiatives, he said, are aimed at improving the economic independence and social status of women in Telangana.
Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika 99-Day Programme
The Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika 99-day action programme launched in Hyderabad will be implemented across around 12,000 villages, wards, and municipalities in Telangana.
The programme focuses on:
- Development activities
- Community participation
- Women’s empowerment
- Social welfare initiatives
Officials said the programme will strengthen local governance and citizen participation in development projects.
Tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru at Chacha Nehru Park
Before launching the programme, Ponnam Prabhakar paid floral tributes to the statue of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Chacha Nehru Park in Masab Tank.
The ceremony marked the beginning of the event attended by government officials, public representatives, and members of the community.
E-Waste Collection Centre and Mirror Library Inaugurated
As part of the event, Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated an E-waste collection centre at Chacha Nehru Park in Hyderabad.
Citizens were encouraged to dispose of unused electronic items such as:
- Televisions
- Refrigerators
- Computers
- Laptops
The collected e-waste will be sent for safe recycling and environmental management.
Additionally, a mirror library built over 1,500 square yards was inaugurated to promote reading habits among residents. The library also allows people to donate books to support the community reading initiative.
Indira Mahila Shakti Canteen Launched
Another highlight of the programme was the launch of the Indira Mahila Shakti Canteen, which will be operated by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The initiative is designed to:
- Create employment opportunities for women
- Support small-scale entrepreneurship
- Promote community-run businesses
The Minister also encouraged women to participate in training programmes conducted by agencies such as SETWIN, which provide skill development opportunities including distribution of sewing machines and livelihood training.
Strong Participation from Women and Officials
The Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika programme in Hyderabad saw enthusiastic participation from women, many of whom attended the event wearing Indiramma sarees.
Several public representatives and officials attended the event, including:

- Hyderabad Grandhalaya Samatha Chairman K. Upender Reddy
- GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan

Organizations such as IBM, LG, Earth Sense, Renavart, and Z Enviro Reldan also participated by setting up e-waste collection kiosks at Chacha Nehru Park.
Women Encouraged to Participate in Development Programmes
Concluding the event, Ponnam Prabhakar urged SHG women to actively take part in the Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika 99-day programme and utilise government schemes for empowerment.
He encouraged women to contribute to sectors such as education, healthcare, environment, and public safety, emphasizing that women’s participation is essential for building a stronger and more inclusive Telangana.
