Telangana Government increases upper age limit for direct recruitment jobs from 34 to 44 years for one year under G.O.Ms.No.86.

Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana has issued G.O.Ms.No.86, dated May 18, 2026, increasing the upper age limit for direct recruitment jobs by 10 years for a period of one year. The order was issued by the General Administration (Services-A) Department to provide relief to unemployed youth and enable more candidates to participate in upcoming recruitment notifications across Telangana.

Telangana Government Raises Age Limit for Recruitment

According to G.O.Ms.No.86 issued by the General Administration (Services-A) Department on May 18, 2026, the Telangana Government has decided to increase the upper age limit for direct recruitment posts from 34 years to 44 years.

The relaxation will remain valid for one year for the ensuing recruitments to be notified by recruiting agencies in the state.

Government Cites Requests From Unemployed Youth

The government stated that several representations were received from unemployed youth seeking relaxation in the upper age limit for direct recruitment jobs.

According to the order:

“A number of representations have been received from unemployed youths, for considering relaxation of upper age limit for direct recruitment to enable more unemployed youth to become eligible to compete in the recruitment process.”

Notification Issued Under Article 309 of Constitution

The government stated that the notification was issued under the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India.

The order mentioned that the ad-hoc rule overrides provisions contained in:

  • Telangana State and Subordinate Service Rules, 1996
  • Special or Adhoc Rules for the State and Subordinate Services

The government clarified that the age concession above the upper age limit will continue as per Rule 12 of the Telangana State and Subordinate Service Rules.

Uniformed Services Excluded From Relaxation

The order specifically stated that the age relaxation will not apply to direct recruitment for Uniformed Services, including:

  • Police
  • Excise
  • Fire
  • Prisons
  • Forest Departments

The government said these departments have prescribed physical standards under relevant service rules.
