Seethakka-Led SERP Connects Women Farmers to Global Markets, Mango Trade Crosses Rs 151 Crore

Seethakka-led SERP is connecting Telangana women farmers to global markets through Bhenishan FPC, helping mango farmers generate Rs 151 crore in business.

Seethakka-led Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) is entering new areas of rural development by implementing innovative programmes aimed at making agriculture profitable for small and marginal farmers in rural areas.

The initiative is especially focused on increasing the income of women farmers by directly connecting them to markets and reducing the role of middlemen.

SERP has created a direct marketing system through which farmers can sell their produce without intermediaries. The organisation is also linking farmers to online marketing platforms, modern retail companies, and national and international markets, giving a new boost to the rural economy.

Bhenishan FPC Opens Global Market for Mango Farmers

The “Bhenishan” Farmer Producer Company (FPC), established under SERP, has made national and international markets accessible for mango farmers in Telangana.

Farmers Balakrishna and his wife from Pebberu exported Mallika variety mangoes abroad during the current season, creating new hope among small farmers.

Officials stated that mango farmers have so far generated business worth Rs 151 crore through this initiative.

According to officials, farmers are receiving 15 to 20 percent additional income through this marketing system.

Small Farmers Now Accessing International Markets

Earlier, farmers with small production quantities considered exports to national and international markets impossible.

However, through Bhenishan, facilities such as:

  • Aggregation
  • Grading
  • Packing
  • Transportation
  • Supply chain support

are being provided, helping even small farmers reach domestic and global markets.

The Bhenishan FPC has signed agreements with several modern retail companies and agro-processing firms, including:

  • Reliance Retail
  • Flipkart
  • BigBasket
  • METRO Cash and Carry
  • More Retail
  • Star Bazaar
  • Ratnadeep

FPO Model Helps Farmers Get Better Prices

Officials stated that earlier, small and marginal farmers producing limited quantities were often ignored by large traders and had to sell their produce to middlemen at low prices.

Now, through Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), produce from farmers is aggregated and sold in bigger markets, ensuring remunerative prices.

At present, 84 Farmer Producer Organisations are functioning under the Bhenishan federation across Telangana.

These organisations are operating in:

  • 30 districts
  • 404 mandals
  • 3,072 villages

A total of 1.09 lakh small and marginal farmers are members, with most of them being women self-help group members.

SERP COO Rajitha Nared Explains Export Quality Measures

Rajitha Nared said every fruit meant for export is specially selected and processed according to quality standards.

She explained that farmers are being given special training in scientific harvesting and grading methods to maintain the quality of mangoes.

SERP Working Towards Sustainable Rural Income

Officials stated that eliminating rural poverty does not mean merely implementing welfare schemes, but creating a sustainable income system for rural families in line with the vision of Minister Seethakka.

They added that SERP’s efforts to provide markets for farmers’ produce, reduce middlemen dominance, and economically empower women farmers are becoming a model for the country.

SERP, under the leadership vision of Minister Seethakka, is helping women farmers and small farmers in Telangana connect directly with national and international markets. Through the Bhenishan FPC initiative, mango farmers have already generated Rs 151 crore in business, while 1.09 lakh farmers across 30 districts are benefiting from improved market access, better prices, and reduced dependence on middlemen.
