KTR Alleges Telangana Congress Govt Plotting to Scrap Free Power Scheme for Farmers Through Prepaid Meters

Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao on Sunday alleged that the Congress government in Telangana is conspiring to abolish the free electricity scheme for farmers by installing prepaid meters on agricultural motors. Addressing a meeting at the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) office, KTR claimed that the state government is planning to replace existing household electricity meters with prepaid meters and eventually hand over the power sector to private entities.

KTR Accuses Congress Govt of Targeting Free Power Scheme
Addressing the meeting at the Bharat Rashtra Samithi office, KT Rama Rao alleged that the Congress government is plotting to completely eliminate free electricity for farmers.
He claimed that the government plans to install meters on agricultural motors with the sole intention of ending the free power scheme.
KTR also alleged that prepaid meters would soon be introduced for all agricultural electricity connections in Telangana.
Telangana Cabinet Decision Allegedly Taken on Saturday
According to KTR, the State Cabinet reportedly took the decision on Saturday.
He alleged that the Congress government is planning to remove existing electricity meters from every household and replace them with prepaid electricity meters similar to prepaid mobile phone connections.
KTR claimed that the replacement of meters across the state would be completed within the next three months.
KTR Urges Public to Oppose “Power Conspiracies”
KT Rama Rao urged people to remove the Congress government from power before prepaid meters are installed on agricultural motors and in households.
He called upon the public to rise against what he described as “power conspiracies” being orchestrated by the Congress party within the electricity sector.
KTR Recalls KCR’s Earlier Warning
KTR recalled that before the Telangana Assembly elections, the BRS had warned people that the free electricity scheme would be abolished if Congress came to power.
He stated that K Chandrashekhar Rao had specifically cautioned that meters would be installed on motor pumps and that the electricity sector would eventually be handed over to private entities under the guise of prepaid meters.
KTR Mentions PM Narendra Modi and Rs 30,000 Crore Loan
The BRS leader stated that during the previous government, despite alleged pressure from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to install prepaid meters, the then Chief Minister KCR refused to do so.
KTR claimed that even when a loan worth Rs 30,000 crore to the state government was allegedly withheld, KCR stood firm against installing prepaid meters.
Allegation of Privatisation of Power Sector
KTR alleged that the Congress government is introducing prepaid electricity meters only to abolish free power supply and hand over Telangana’s power utilities to corporate companies.
He stated that the Cabinet allegedly took the decision with the ultimate goal of privatising the electricity sector.
KTR Says Public Angry with Congress Government
KT Rama Rao said that people across Telangana are angry with the Congress party.
He claimed the public would teach Congress a “fitting lesson” when given the opportunity.
KTR further alleged that despite half of the five-year mandate having already passed, the Congress government has failed to deliver meaningful results for the people and the state.
He accused the Congress party of making reckless promises while engaging in “anarchy and corruption at every step.”
