Telangana Police to Set Up Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau, DGP C.V. Anand Reviews Anti-Accident Plan
Telangana Police has initiated the establishment of a Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau to reduce road accidents. DGP C.V. Anand also reviewed plans to form Anti-Drug and Safety Committees in educational institutions.

Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Wednesday initiated the process to establish a Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau to strengthen road safety measures and reduce road accidents across the state. Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior police officers, the DGP reviewed the bureau’s proposed organisational structure, functions, staffing, legal framework and administrative mechanisms. He also chaired a separate review meeting on strengthening anti-drug measures in educational institutions through EAGLE (Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau).
Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau Planned
Director General of Police C.V. Anand chaired a high-level review meeting with senior police officers to discuss the establishment of the proposed Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau.
During the meeting, the DGP reviewed:
- Proposed organisational structure
- Functions of the bureau
- Staffing requirements
- Legal framework
- Administrative mechanisms
Officials also discussed the bureau’s role in:
- Traffic management
- Accident prevention
- Enforcement strategies
- Coordination with various stakeholder departments
Road Safety Framework Reviewed
The meeting examined:
- The existing road safety scenario in Telangana
- Best practices adopted by other states
- Guidelines issued by the Supreme Court
- Government of India directives
- Relevant Government Orders (GOs) relating to road safety and traffic management
Senior officers discussed the measures needed to build a comprehensive institutional framework to improve road safety across the state.
DGP Calls for Scientific Action Plan
Emphasising the need for a coordinated and scientific approach, C.V. Anand directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the proposed bureau.
He stressed the importance of:
- Strengthening inter-departmental coordination
- Enhancing traffic enforcement
- Analysing accident data
- Creating sustained public awareness on road safety
The DGP also announced that another review meeting would be held shortly to finalise the bureau’s structure, responsibilities and implementation roadmap.
Separate Review on Drug-Free Educational Institutions
Meanwhile, the DGP chaired another high-level review meeting with officials of EAGLE (Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau).
He said the Telangana government is taking decisive steps to make all educational institutions completely drug-free while ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
C.V. Anand stressed that educational institutions must adopt zero tolerance for drugs, stating that narcotic substances should have no place in:
- Schools
- Colleges
- Other educational campuses
He emphasised the need for a comprehensive safety mechanism to protect students from the growing menace of narcotic substances.
Anti-Drug and Safety Committees to Be Formed
As part of the proposed initiative:
- Anti-Drug and Safety Committees will be established in all schools, colleges and other educational institutions across Telangana.
- Every institution will appoint a Campus Safety Coordinator.
The Campus Safety Coordinator will oversee:
- Student safety
- Anti-drug awareness programmes
- Counselling initiatives
- Coordination with parents
- Coordination with law enforcement agencies
During the meeting, EAGLE officials presented a detailed overview covering:
- Proposed framework
- Responsibilities
- Implementation mechanism
- Monitoring system
- Operational guidelines
After reviewing the presentation, the DGP suggested several modifications and additions to strengthen the proposed guidelines and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive framework incorporating the recommendations discussed during the meeting.
