Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), has advocated for the establishment of a Palestinian State based on the 1967 borders. He expressed this stance during his address at the joint summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, MBS expressed concern about the violence in Gaza, emphasizing the harm suffered by innocent civilians. He affirmed Saudi Arabia’s rejection of targeting civilians and stressed the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law. He also called for an end to military operations that impact the daily lives of civilians and their infrastructure.
MBS stated that conditions should be established to bring stability and achieve lasting peace, ultimately leading to the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.
Notably, a 2017 policy document from Hamas suggested the potential acceptance of a Palestinian state in the territories occupied by Israel during the six-day war of 1967. It’s important to note that Israel has consistently rejected this demand, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterating that Israel would not revert to its 1967 borders.
