Delhi University has decided to remove the chapter on the life and poetry of the famous poet Allama Iqbal, who wrote national song ‘Saare Jahan se achcha Hindustan humara’, from the university curriculum. He is the national poet. He was born in 1877 in Sialkot in undivided India.
Currently the Delhi University Academy Board has passed a resolution to remove a chapter of Iqbal from the syllabus.
In the BA course, the 6th semester paper consists of text on Allama Iqbal. The great Indian poet has been mentioned in the chapter on modern Indian political thought. But officials said the final decision to remove the chapter would be taken by the executive council. ABVP has welcomed the decision of the University council.
ABVP leader said that Allama Iqbal is recognized as a Pakistani philosopher. Iqbal played a key role in establishing Jinnah as an important leader in the Muslim League. He said that like Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Iqbal was equally responsible for the partition of India.
