An elderly woman assumed control and successfully landed a plane after the pilot fell ill. The incident occurred at Martha’s Vineyard Airport in Massachusetts, USA, on Saturday (15/07).
According to reports from the UOL portal, the pilot, who was 80 years old, became incapacitated just before initiating the landing procedure. In a remarkable turn of events, the 68-year-old passenger took charge of the 2006 Piper Meridian turboprop aircraft. The plane was en route from Westchester County, New York.
Despite her lack of experience, the passenger skillfully landed the plane, albeit off the runway, resulting in one of the aircraft’s wings collapsing.
Following the incident, both the pilot and the woman were transported to the hospital. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation and has chosen to keep the identities of the two individuals involved confidential.
