Google Pay Warns Against Using These Apps While Making UPI Payments

In the realm of UPI transactions, Google Pay continues to shine as a reliable and secure choice, making it a top favorite among users. The platform’s robust security measures, including artificial intelligence and advanced fraud prevention technology, contribute to its widespread popularity.

However, recent concerns have emerged regarding the misuse of certain applications, particularly ‘Screen Sharing’ apps, which could potentially compromise users’ banking details. Google Pay, in response to this growing threat, has cautioned its users against employing these apps during transactions.

While Google Pay diligently identifies and prevents fraudulent transactions in real-time, it acknowledges the limitations in its constant vigilance. Scammers may exploit vulnerabilities in specific use cases, using deceptive tactics to convince users to install apps that can compromise sensitive information.

In a statement, Google emphasized, “Google Pay never asks you to download or install a third-party app for any reason.” Users are urged to ensure the closure of any such apps before using Google Pay. The platform advises immediate uninstallation of suspicious apps if users have been misled into downloading them, further encouraging reporting of such incidents.

The concern arises from the capabilities of ‘Screen Sharing’ apps, allowing unauthorized access to users’ screens. In some cases, these apps enable remote control of devices, posing a significant risk to users’ confidential information, especially during UPI transactions.

Users are reminded to exercise caution and refrain from using screen-sharing apps unless absolutely necessary. For those essential for work purposes, Google Pay advises users not to engage with these apps during financial transactions or when accessing sensitive data such as banking information and OTPs.
