Historic Osmania University to become closed campus; what does it mean?

Hyderabad: The 105-year-old Osmania University is taking steps towards becoming a closed campus, implementing various measures to limit access to outsiders.

Entry onto the campus will require a valid university ID card for both students and staff. University stickers will be provided to authorized vehicles, ensuring only genuine students and staff can enter the campus once the roads are closed.

Morning walkers and joggers will still be allowed in, but they’ll need to park their vehicles outside and may receive identity cards.

An Oxygen Park has been established on the 200-acre land behind the University College of Engineering for walkers and joggers. Visitors will receive passes based on their purpose and the person they’re meeting.

The new link road from the NCC gate to Adikmet flyover is in the works, paving the way for a closed campus. The Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) is overseeing the project, and a portion of the Andhra Mahila Sabha building might be dismantled to accommodate the road.

The 1.2 km four-lane road is projected to cost Rs 16 crore and should be completed in the next six to eight months. The university aims to enhance security and maintenance by transitioning to a closed campus, limiting outsider access to the hours between 8 pm and 6 am.
