Hyderabad: The city police have arrested three individuals who were planning to murder a relator Ekkati Vijaypal Reddy.
The suspects were identified as Dasari Bhoomaiah (62), a retired police inspector from Karimnagar town, Mamidi Chandraiah (47) from Peddapalli District, and Gorre Royagolla (52) from Warangal district.
The police seized one country-made pistol, two sickles, net cash of Rs 1 lakh, and six cell phones from the suspects’ possession.
According to the Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand, the arrested Dasari Bhoomaiah is the mastermind behind the murder plan. He was previously caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2018 for acquiring disproportionate assets, and he suspected that information leading to his arrest was provided by Ekkati Vijaypal Reddy, a realtor. Bhoomaiah had been remanded to judicial custody but was released later.
After his release, Bhoomaiah developed enmity against Vijaypal Reddy, who had allegedly prevented him from cultivating his lands situated at Basheerabad Mandal, R.R. District. Bhoomaiah decided to eliminate Vijaypal Reddy, and in March 2023, he contacted Mamidi Chandraiah to engage some hired killers.
Chandraiah, in turn, contacted Shanker, who had previously worked in the Janasakthi Pratigatana Naxals Group. Shanker contacted Gaddam Kumar, his close friend from Mancherial, and they entered into an oral agreement with Bhoomaiah to eliminate Vijaypal Reddy for an amount of Rs. 20 lakhs.
The suspects had conducted surveillance, located the house of Vijaypal Reddy near Astalaxmi Temple in LB Nagar, and photographed his vehicle.
However, on credible information, the Commissioner’s Task Force North Zone and Gopalapuram Police apprehended them before they could carry out their plan.
The police have booked the suspects under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are conducting further investigations.
