Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrests fraudster for cheating a cricket fan
He was arrested after a complaint was lodged by a victim in Hyderabad, who reported that Mohammad Riyaz (33) had approached him with false promises of arranging tickets for the ODI match between India and Australia in Visakhapatnam held on March 19 this year.
Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police here have apprehended a person hailing from Gurgaon in Haryana for cheating a fan after promising him of arranging ODI cricket match tickets.
Police seized one mobile phone from him.
He was arrested after a complaint was lodged by a victim in Hyderabad, who reported that Mohammad Riyaz (33) had approached him with false promises of arranging tickets for the ODI match between India and Australia in Visakhapatnam held on March 19 this year.
The victim transferred an amount of Rs. 5,26,360 to the bank accounts provided by the accused. The Cyber Crime Police in Hyderabad registered the case under Cr.No.1012/2023 and conducted a thorough investigation, a police release said on Monday.
The modus operandi was that Mohammad Riyaz, a cyber fraudster, previously worked as a freelancer for EventsNow company, where he had access to cricket match tickets. Exploiting his contacts and insider knowledge, he devised a scheme to deceive cricket enthusiasts by collecting money on the pretext of providing match tickets and thereby making easy money.
The Cyber Crime Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to online ticket transactions. The arrest serves as a stern warning against those attempting to exploit the excitement of cricket fans for illicit gains.
