Hyderabad Metro Rail receives Rs 60,000 crore for extensive expansion

Hyderabad: The State Cabinet has given the green light for a major expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail, backed by an investment of Rs 60,000 crore. Over the next three to four years, the project aims to extend the metro network towards key highways leading to Nagpur, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Vijayawada, and Bengaluru.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved plans for a 159-km Metro Rail line along the Outer Ring Road, which won’t require land acquisition.

In further efforts to improve transportation in Hyderabad, the Cabinet has passed resolutions requesting the utilization of Hakimpet Air Force Station (AFS) for civilian purposes, alongside defense activities, similar to what’s been done in Goa and Pune. This decision comes as Hyderabad requires a second airport to accommodate the heavy air traffic at Shamshabad airport. Moreover, the Cabinet seeks to expedite the establishment of an airport in Mamnoor, Warangal.

Municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao emphasized that these initiatives are geared towards elevating Hyderabad to a global city status by creating world-class public transport and infrastructure facilities. The expansion plans encompass various routes, including the Godavarikani route, Vijayawada route, Warangal route, and the Bengaluru highway, connecting important areas such as Jubilee bus station, Isnapur, Miyapur, Lakdikapul, LB Nagar, Pedda Amberpet, Uppal, ECIL crossroads, Shamshabad, Kothur, and Kandukur, linking to Hyderabad Pharma City.
