Hyderabad: The French Ministry of Culture conferred the second highest civilian French honor to Hyderabad writer Fatima Shahnaz.
She was bestowed with the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) award.
Thierry Berthelot, the Consul General of France in Bangalore presented the award to Shahnaz for her contributions in arts and literature.
Dr Fatima’s literary career spans over 30 years. During the course, Dr Fatima has not only excelled as a writer but has also ventured into humanitarian work, poetry, journalism and authored notable books. Her works include Golconda, Khaki: Poems on Pulwama, Shards, Prince of Tear and Tiger in the Twilight. Dr Fatima has served as a professor of politics at Jamia Milia University.
Fatima, a scion of the royal family of Nawab Fakhrul Mulk Bahadur and Sir Salar Jung on her paternal side, is currently writing a book on Indo-French cuisine, with a focus on Hyderabad and France.
She has pursued her studies in both France and the United States and eventually returned to her roots in Hyderabad.
