Hyderabadis who missed rare phenomenon on May 9, can observe ‘Zero Shadow Day’ today

Hyderabad: Today, at 12:23 pm, Hyderabad will experience the rare celestial phenomenon known as ‘Zero Shadow Day’. This phenomenon happens in regions near the equator, between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer, when the sun aligns directly above the Earth’s equator. During this time, no object or creature casts a shadow.

To witness the event, one can be in an open space where the sun is directly overhead. The Birla Planetarium in Hyderabad is recommended for observing the event.

Hyderabad also experienced Zero Shadow Day earlier on May 9, this year. The phenomenon is rare and takes place in selected locations after several years.

On this day, students and enthusiasts between the two Tropics often erect vertical poles and observe the unique cosmic event.
