IPL 2025 Resumes After India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Revised Schedule Announced

The first match of the re-started season will be held on May 17 in Bengaluru, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume this week after an official ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan brought a halt to days of heightened tension. The first match of the re-started season will be held on May 17 in Bengaluru, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

17 Matches Across 6 Cities Till June 3

In a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it was announced that a total of 17 matches will be played between May 17 and June 3, concluding with the grand final. Six venues—Bengaluru, Lucknow, Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad—will host the remaining league matches. Venues for the Playoff games will be announced at a later date.

“The revised schedule includes two double-headers to be played on Sundays,” the BCCI noted.

Abrupt Suspension Amid Tensions

The IPL 2025 season was suspended last week amid military tensions between India and Pakistan. The suspension followed dramatic scenes at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, where the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was halted after 10.1 overs and the players and spectators were urgently evacuated. That match will now be replayed from the start.

The Indian Express reported instances where players returned to hotels still wearing their batting gear, reflecting the urgency and fear surrounding the situation.

Airports Reopened, Teams Recalled

All 32 Indian airports, including Chandigarh and Dharamsala, which were closed during the conflict, have now been reopened. The BCCI has asked all franchises—except Punjab Kings—to report to their venues by Tuesday. Teams have also been advised to coordinate travel plans for their foreign players to ensure a smooth resumption of the tournament.

BCCI: Nation First, Cricket Second

While announcing the earlier suspension, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated:

“While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country.”

He emphasized that the BCCI would always prioritize national interests when making decisions.
