KCR dedicates bronze statue& renovated park of Mahatma Gandhi to nation

The five-tonne bronze statue of 16 feet height with Mahatma Gandhi in a meditative posture, has been unveiled by KCR. It has been sculpted by Ram Sutar Fine Arts at a cost of ₹1.25 crore.

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandashekhar Rao has dedicated the 16-feet bronze statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, installed at Gandhi Hospital in Musheerabad here on Sunday.

The five-tonne bronze statue of 16 feet height with Mahatma Gandhi in a meditative posture, has been unveiled by KCR. It has been sculpted by Ram Sutar Fine Arts at a cost of ₹1.25 crore.

It has been installed on an island area of 200 square metres surrounded by landscaping, stepped planter walls, lighting, civil works, pathway, fencing and footpath which have been developed at a cost of ₹1 crore.

The Chief Minister also dedicated the renovated Mahatma Gandhi Park on MG Road in Secunderabad, to the nation, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The park has been developed by GHMC and it has been renovated with an expenditure of ₹1.39 crore.

Speaking, after dedicating to nation the statue of Gandhi, KCR said being born in the country where Mahatma Gandhi was born is great for all of us.

Gandhi’s theory of non-violence, peace and sacrifice was a universal and eternal theory. Mahatma’s prophecy and doctrine are universal, he said no one can erase it.

The Chief Minister said Mahatma Gandhi is the man of the age who influenced the world with the doctrine of non-violence, like Gautama Buddha and Jesus Christ.

Rao said that Subash Chandra Bose himself said that he is a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. He proposed to achieve Swaraj with Ahimsa.

He said today is also the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri who gave the great slogan ‘Jai Jawan.. Jai Kisan’ and lived a humble life. Along with Mahatma Gandhi, the whole country is also paying tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The Chief Minister praised the doctors of Gandhi Hospital who have bravely served in Covid time with or without facilities.

He said that the doctors here fought against the Covid pandemic with the courage given by Gandhi.

Stating that the Telangana Government was surging ahead in development following Gandhian principles, KCR urged intellectuals and scholars to condemn any attempts made to criticise the philosophy and principles of Mahatma Gandhi.

In recent times, there were a few instances when Gandhian principles were criticised by a few vested interests. This should not be tolerated and has to be condemned strongly. It was the responsibility of the intellectuals to condemn such attempts and promote good work, he added.
