K’taka: Will beat him with footwear, Cong leader insults PM Modi

Bengaluru: Congress leader GS Manjunath has raked up a controversy by insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reducing the price of LPG cylinders.

He also argued that the announcement of the gas cylinder price cut is an electoral gimmick, and he would beat the prime minister with footwear for this.

“The elections are coming, and they have reduced the price (of the cylinder gas) by Rs 100. If I happen to meet him (PM Modi), I will beat him with what I have in my legs and ask why you are doing it now?” he said addressing a public rally.

“I want to ask this not as a congressman but as a citizen of this country. You all must ask this or else no one will listen. When we don’t learn to question, we don’t fully become deserving to be voters in the state. I plead to the people; the election begins in about 15 days. Why are you happy that prices have been reduced by Rs 100?” Manjunath said.

Modi had announced a Rs 100 cut on LPG cylinders on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The BJP has vehemently reacted to Manjunath’s unparliamentary remarks on PM and sought an apology from him.

“Siddaramaiah is a role model for him. He too insults other political leaders. I request DK Shivkumar (KPCC President) to initiate action. The Congress leader too should issue an apology,” It said.

BJP MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy said the remarks against Modi will prove costly for the Congress and added that the BJP leadership will initiate legal action against Manjunath.

“The BJP Central leadership will initiate legal action. The Congress party follows a culture of abuse and indulges in using derogatory language.

The Congress party has abused the prime minister and the president in the past and it has proven costly for them,” he said.
