KTR demands Bayyaram Steel Plant and Tribal University for State

Telangana IT and Industry Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday urged the government to fulfil the long-standing demands of the state, including the establishment of an integrated steel plant at Bayyaram and a Tribal University.

Hyderabad: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana to lay foundation stones for various infrastructure projects, Telangana IT and Industry Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday urged the government to fulfil the long-standing demands of the state, including the establishment of an integrated steel plant at Bayyaram and a Tribal University.

Taking to Twitter, KTR expressed disappointment over the unfulfilled promise of an integrated steel plant at Bayyaram, which was assured in the AP Reorganisation Act. Despite nine years having passed and numerous reminders, the BJP-led Union Government’s continued denial of this project is disheartening.

He emphasised that Bayyaram possesses all the necessary resources, such as iron ore, land, water, power, coal, and a skilled workforce, and the government’s neglect deprives around 15,000 local youngsters of employment opportunities. KTR demanded a strong commitment from the Prime Minister regarding the establishment of the Steel Plant at Bayyaram during his visit to Telangana.

Further, KTR highlighted the delay in establishing a Tribal University in Telangana, as assured in the AP Reorganisation Act.

He noted that despite the State Government identifying and providing 350 acres of land in Mulugu nearly six years ago, the BJP-led Central Government has failed to establish the university or allocate funds for this crucial institution.

Numerous representations by the Chief Minister and other leaders have gone unanswered.

KTR urged the Prime Minister to address the indifference and stepmotherly treatment towards Telangana and make a clear statement regarding the Tribal University during his visit on Saturday.
