Major fire breaks out at Tesco warehouse in Telangana

Police said the fire broke out at about 1800 hours on Monday. The flames spread to the entire godown at fast pace.

Warangal: A major fire broke out at Telangana Government Textile Warehouse (Tesco warehouse) in Dharmaram village in this district on Monday night.

Police said the fire broke out at about 1800 hours on Monday. The flames spread to the entire godown at fast pace.

On information, five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and doused flames after struggling for 13 hours.

Due to the intensity of fire, the walls of the godown also collapsed.

According to Warehouse In-charge Srinivas, the warehouse houses handloom garments for students.

These garments have to be sent to schools. But schools have been closed in recent times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. About Rs 35 crore worth garments were gutted in the fire.

The cause for the fire is yet to be ascertained.

A case has been registered and an investigation is underway, police added.
