Man pronounces triple talaq 2 hours after Nikah; held

According to media reports, a Muslim man in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, divorced his wife using the practice of triple talaq just two hours after their marriage ceremony. Mohd Asif and Dolly were married on Friday in a nikah ceremony held at a marriage hall in Fatehabad, Agra.

Following the ceremony, the groom noticed that a car, which was supposed to be part of the dowry, was missing. This upset him, and he demanded either the immediate provision of a car at the spot or a sum of Rs 5 lakh from the bride’s parents, as stated by Dolly’s brother, Kamran Wasi, sources stated.

Asif’s family became angry and accused Dolly’s parents of not fulfilling their promise to provide a car along with other items in the dowry. Wasi explained that both Dolly and her sister Gauri were married on the same day. However, while Gauri left with her groom and in-laws, Dolly’s groom left without her since his demand for a car couldn’t be met at such short notice.

Kamran Wasi filed a complaint, resulting in an FIR being lodged against Asif and six others, as reported by India Today. Wasi insisted that all seven individuals named in the FIR should be arrested.

It’s worth noting that according to the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act of 2019, pronouncing triple talaq three times to divorce a woman is considered a criminal offense..
