Indian mountaineer Baljit Kaur, who went missing from the summit of Camp 4 on Mount Annapurna, has been found and is alive. An organizer of the climbing expedition gave this information on Tuesday.
Sherpa, president of Pioneer Adventure, said an aerial search team had located Baljit Kaur. She climbed the tenth highest peak in the world yesterday without supplemental oxygen.
He said that we are preparing to airlift her to High Camp. According to the Sherpas, the aerial search party saw Baljit descending alone towards Camp Char. The record holder Indian woman climber was left alone below the peak summit point.
She could not be reached through radio till this morning. An aerial search operation was then launched this morning and succeeded in sending a radio signal for ‘urgent help’. According to Sherpa, Baljit’s GPS location indicated that she had reached an altitude of 7,375 meters (24,193 ft).
She climbed Mount Annapurna yesterday evening at around 5.15 pm with two Sherpa guides. At least three helicopters were deployed to search Baljit.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to retrieve the body of 10-time Everest climber Noel Haana from Northern Ireland, who breathed his last at Camp Four after returning from the summit.
Meanwhile, base camp officials said there is little chance of finding Indian climber Anurag Malu, who went missing yesterday after falling into a deep crevasse at an altitude of 6,000 meters while descending from Camp Four. Anurag Malu was a native of Kishangarh in Rajasthan
