MLC Amer Ali Khan Urges Telangana CM to De-Reserve Urdu Medium Posts in DSC-2024 Recruitment
Amer Ali Khan, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and News Editor of The Siasat Daily, has formally submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Minister Hon'ble A. Revanth Reddy, urging the de-reservation of Urdu medium posts in the upcoming District Selection Committee (DSC) - 2024 recruitment process.
Hyderabad: Amer Ali Khan, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and News Editor of The Siasat Daily, has formally submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Minister Hon’ble A. Revanth Reddy, urging the de-reservation of Urdu medium posts in the upcoming District Selection Committee (DSC) – 2024 recruitment process. This appeal comes in response to growing concerns from teachers’ associations and individuals advocating for the rights of Urdu medium educators.
The representation highlights the pressing need to address the allocation of 1,179 Urdu medium posts, a significant portion of which—663 posts—are currently reserved for candidates from SC, ST, and various BC categories. The remaining 516 posts are available for Muslim candidates. Mr. Khan argues that de-reserving these posts is crucial to filling long-standing vacancies that have hindered the educational prospects of Urdu medium students and teachers alike.
In his submission, Mr. Khan emphasized the unique position of Urdu in Telangana, noting its status as the state’s second official language. He pointed out that while reservations are important, the special case of Urdu medium posts warrants a different approach to ensure that these positions, many of which have remained vacant for years, are filled promptly.
“While it is absolutely important to have reservations, the case of Urdu medium posts is slightly different. The de-reserving will ensure that these posts, that have remained vacant for several years, are filled. As a result, both teachers and students of Urdu medium stand to gain. Urdu is the second official language of Telangana. Therefore, promoting, preserving, and teaching in this language assumes significance,” Mr. Khan stated in his representation.
The move has been welcomed by Urdu medium educators and advocates, who see this as a necessary step towards preserving the linguistic and educational heritage of Urdu in Telangana. Many have expressed hope that the de-reservation will lead to a more equitable and efficient filling of vacancies, benefiting the Urdu-speaking community.
Mr. Khan’s appeal aligns with his long-standing commitment to promoting Urdu language and culture. As the News Editor of *The Siasat Daily*, a respected media house that recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, he has been a vocal advocate for the preservation and promotion of Urdu. His efforts mirror those of his father, Janab Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of *The Siasat Daily*, who is also a staunch proponent of Urdu’s literary and cultural heritage.
The representation now awaits the response of the Telangana government, with many hopeful that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will consider the de-reservation to ensure that Urdu medium posts are adequately filled in the DSC-2024 recruitment.
