Dharwad: At least four pushcarts belonging to Muslims were vandalized by the members of Sri Ram Sene, a right-wing Hindu group, near the Sri Nuggikeri Hanumantha temple, in Karnataka’s Dharwad district, on Saturday.
Earlier some Hindu outfits in Karnataka, like the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sri Rama Sene demanded a boycott against Muslim fruit sellers alleging that they have “dominated the business”.
The video of the incident are making rounds on social media. Men with saffron scarves can be seen destroying watermelons and other fruits.
Taking to twitter people have lashed out at the government and administration for not taking any action against the accused.
Arifa Ayyub writes: “The daily humiliation of India’s Muslims continues. The state remains blind to these atrocities. The Police are a mute spectator. The Judiciary is deaf. And the Hindu majority silently rejoices.”
Another twitter user tweeted: “This is from #Dharwad, #Karnataka. Muslim push cart vendors targeted outside #HanumanTemple. #SriRamSene members vandalize & destroy watermelon. They says #Muslim vendors shouldn’t do business outside temples. Cops present at the location did nothing to stop the vandalise.”
One Wasim Khan ironically states: “Welcome to new Karnataka Hindutva group vandalise muslim Shop In dharwad”
A user claiming that Dharwad was one of the peaceful place since Indian Independence lamented: “#Dharwad was an example to follow! From 1947 till now: Not a single instance of #Hindu–#Muslim conflict. Not one. Zero. And now the idiots have arrived there too. What a shame! What an absolute shame!”
Dr Nilima Srivastava while tagging Zafar Sareshwala tweets: “SriRam Sena vandalise Muslim’s vendor’s cart near Temple in Dharwad. “Finish me once for all, I’ll raise my hands. K!|| me.. We’re crying looking at fruits, My tears have become too much to bare coz my means of earning has been taken off…”
